The project promoted a positive employment environment for PWD’s with formal education and without through advocacy, awareness-raising, linking PWDs to potential employers or training those without formal education into income generating activities. It was sponsored by the Danish Brain Injury Association. The pilot two-year project (2009-2010) was implemented in Makindye and Kawempe divisions in Kampala District.
Through the project, a data-base about PWDs job skills, level of qualification and the kind of jobs they can do, among others, was created. PWDs were trained in skills like CV writing, how you can pass a job interview, among others. Employers who are interested in giving jobs to PWDs now have an opportunity to choose from the available list at UNAPD.
There are also many PWDs especially those with Cerebral Palsy, Brain Injury, or their care givers who were trained in making chalk, candles, table clothes, table mats, beads jewelry, liquid soap, and paper bags.
